Jeanne Martin, 27, works in a Parisian open-plan office for what looks like a typical start-up. The day she fills in for a colleague on a mysterious assignment — approaching a stranger in a café and pressing a button that erases his memory — she is fired on the spot. Jobless and broke, she responds to an ad that seems too good to be true: a Victorian manor in Normandy for €300/month.

What she discovers will turn her life upside down. The house is home to Gnog Gregg, a charming ghost killed in 1871 by his brother Roger, both of them trapped between worlds by a meteorite buried beneath a centuries-old oak tree. Together with her companion Hélène Leclerc and their friend Max Collins, Jeanne discovers that their three families carry in their DNA the genetic signature of the meteorite — and that Gregg Industries has deliberately brought them together for a "ceremony" tied to the peak of a twenty-five-year magnetic cycle.
